Age Spots on Hands
Age spots on the hands are primarily a result of the natural aging process. These pigmentation issues arise from malfunctioning melanin, leading to either hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or discoloration (lighter spots) in the skin.
Repeated sun exposure significantly contributes to this condition, as UV rays penetrate the skin and stimulate melanocytes. When melanin production increases abnormally and is not evenly distributed on the skin’s surface, brown spots can appear.
Hormonal changes, such as those occurring during pregnancy or while using contraceptives, can also lead to hyperpigmentation.
To prevent age spots, it is essential to consistently apply sun protection, particularly during months of intense sunlight. Using appropriate sunscreen products not only works preventively but can also have a positive effect on existing brown spots.
