Folliculitis

Folliculitis is an inflammation that develops in the hair follicles due to infection, injury, or irritation. It can appear anywhere on the body, including the face and scalp, affecting both the surface and deeper layers of the skin.

The most common causes of folliculitis include:

  • Rough, unscaly skin: This condition can prevent hair from growing and rising to the surface.
  • Curly hair growth: Curly hairs may lose their orientation and fail to penetrate the sebaceous gland barrier, leading to irritation.
  • Bacteria and microorganisms: While these are naturally found on our skin and usually harmless, they can cause rashes and inflammation in hair follicles under certain circumstances.
  • Profuse sweating: Excessive sweating can contribute to the flare-up of folliculitis.
  • Shaving: This common grooming method can injure the skin, creating an environment for germs to enter and cause infection.
  • Poor hygiene: Inadequate cleaning, tight clothing, and the use of skincare products that clog pores can also lead to folliculitis.

The most effective treatment for folliculitis is the use of laser hair removal. The laser light beam is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, allowing for the permanent destruction of hair follicles without damaging surrounding tissues. This method not only prevents folliculitis but also has antibacterial properties that improve the skin’s condition from the first application, leading to the definitive elimination of the problem.
